Greenfield Children's Centre - working with families, children under 5 and the wider community in Waltham Cross

Greenfield Pre-school

Pre-school is open every day, term time only - from 9.00 - 12. 00 and 12.30 - 3.30.

There is also a large outside area.

Children in Greenfield Pre-school are able to choose their own activities. The environment is set up to allow them to develop their independence in making choices about what to do, to enable them to interact with other children and adults, and to learn through play.

A favourite area for many children is the home corner, which is often enhanced by a second role play area, such as an office or baby clinic.

Every session finishes with story time and a singing session. Children are also encouraged to take books home, as well as look at books on their own, with friends or with an adult, on the comfortable sofa or cushions.
Mark making is encouraged - with pens and paper, using paints and brushes, chalks, or fingers in shaving foam.
Opportunities for developing mathematical understanding and problem solving are available across the setting - from laying the table with enough matching plates and cups to counting how many children around the snack table.
Painting offers children the chance to be creative as well as exploring colour. They are encouraged to be independent in putting on aprons and washing their hands afterwards. An easel or large area for painting with water outside allows children to make marks using large arm movements, which is so important before they can start to write.
