Greenfield Children's Centre - working with families, children under 5 and the wider community in Waltham Cross

Strawberry Room

There is a large home corner, where children can play at cooking, eating and minding the baby. Dressing up clothes are available too.

Often there is another role play area alongside the home corner, such as a baby clinic, or a garage or garden center outside.

This display of work about the chicks shows childrens' drawings and paintings, as well as photographs.

Many of the children made diaries to show the changes in the chicks.

The children enjoy playing with the small world resources such as this beautiful wooden airport. They can play imaginatively together.

There are also cars and a garage, a dolls' house, dinosaurs, wild and farm animals

There is an attractive music area with a range of percussion and tuned instruments, as well as a CD player and some pompoms to encourage children to move in time to the music. Singing and rhymes are an important part of everyday life at Greenfield.

The attractive, well-stocked graphics area encourages children to draw and write.

One table is set up as an office, encouraging children to develop their understanding of writing through their imaginative play. Pens and paper are also available in the outdoor area, as well as in other areas, so that children can write lists, make notes, write letters etc in their play.

This area has been set up for the Meet and Greet session at the start of the day.

There are a number of different construction sets as well as a very large selection of wooden Community blocks - children can learn so much in all areas of learning through their play, including shape, size, symmetry, persistence, co-operating, sharing, as well as developing their imaginations.

Children can also choose from a wide range of small world toys - cars, road maps, garage, dolls' house, dinosaurs, farm animals etc. These develop their knowledge understanding of the world, as well as enabling them to sort, compare, share and make up stories.
